That’s a wrap! Highlights of 2022
On the 29th of November, a memory came up on my Facebook account. It was a memory of the Grand Opening Party I held when I opened my first clinic four years ago. This caused me to reflect on what has been an extraordinary four years of ups, downs, challenges, and changes. A lot has gone on!
Those of you who have known me for a while would remember that on April Fools in 2019 a car drove straight into the reception of my clinic. After only five months of trading in a brand spanking new fit out, the place was destroyed beyond belief. The only saving grace was that no one was in the clinic at the time as I would be telling a different story. This accident caused the clinic to be closed for two months!
The remainder of 2019 was relatively uneventful but that was enough! Then we welcomed in 2020 with all the excitement a new decade would bring only to learn of the dreaded global pandemic that was fast upon us and what no one would have ever expected in their wildest dreams would ensue over the course of the coming two years. Who would have thought that we would be locked in our homes, not allowed to leave except to go to the supermarket, only do exercise within 5km and even have a curfew! Definitely something to tell the grandchildren however a story that feels like it has long since been forgotten now.
In many respects, COVID was good to me. Some positives during that time was that in June 2020 I was released from a five-year franchise agreement with an ailing franchise (which subsequently no longer exists) and was able to rebrand the clinic, add additional services and run it with the care for my customers I always desired.
In 2021 I was also released from a seven-year lease on the shop I had at the time in Camberwell Place – a shopping centre that promised the world but completely misread the market when they renovated in earlier in 2019.
During COVID I also completed a Diploma of Beauty and commenced by Bachelor of Dermal Science. This year sees me complete my second year and I simply love the growth and learning I am getting from this course.
With the support of government grants I was able to maintain my clinic, found a new location and things have only looked up ever since. My customer base has expanded, my google reviews are great and I’ve increased Instagram followers by 200% this year (albeit I still need to grow that more!)
On the personal front 2022 has been a jam-packed, action-packed year. After COVID one of my personal goals was to simplify my life. In January I decided to sell my house in Sorrento, so the first three months were spent getting it ready for sale in March. Following the sale, I then spent the next two months moving everything on.
In June, I committed myself to having a break from study and just focus on me and the business. However, after a sneak peak on realestate.com on Sunday 19th June I went out a bought a beautiful new home on 20th June. For those of you who know me I don’t do things by halves and so agreed to a 30-day settlement – what was I thinking???
Settlement date was 22 July -a perfect birthday gift for me. I had the best birthday evah! But then came the onslaught of moving another house and moving everything on yet again. August was a wipe-out as was half of September. No sooner had I finished moving in and my next subject at Uni commence.
I’m pleased to say I’m finishing the year on a high! Life is great and it’s not very often all the stars align and for me 2022 has been a fantastic year. I hope you’ve also enjoyed the freedom we didn’t experience the previous two years and things have been positively amazing for you to.
I’m excited for 2023 with new things happening in the clinic (watch this space) and looking forward to a bright future.
Spreading a bit of Oliva cheer – wishing you Light and love this Christmas!
Best wishes,
Christine
