Laser vein treatment, also known as laser vein therapy, is a safe and effective non-invasive procedure designed to diminish the appearance of unsightly spider veins and varicose veins. Using advanced laser technology, targeted bursts of light energy are directed at the affected veins, causing them to gradually fade and disappear over time. This precise treatment works by heating and closing off the damaged veins, redirecting blood flow to healthier veins nearby. Laser vein therapy offers a convenient solution for those seeking to improve the appearance of visible veins on the legs, face, or other areas of the body, without the need for surgery or extensive downtime. With minimal discomfort and impressive results, laser vein therapy can help restore your confidence and achieve clearer skin.
Laser vascular treatments are also available for treating conditions such as cherry anginoma (non-cancerous/benign skin growths made of up blood vessels) and rosacea (a chronic vascular and inflammatory skin disease
Laser vein therapy is ideal for individuals who are bothered by the appearance of telangiectasias (broken capillaries), spider veins or reticular veins on their legs, face, or other areas of the body. It’s suitable for people of all skin types and backgrounds who wish to reduce the visibility of unsightly veins without undergoing invasive surgical procedures. Laser vein treatment can help you achieve your aesthetic goals with minimal discomfort and downtime.
Laser vascular therapy is ideal for individuals experience other vascular conditions such as cherry angioma, roseacea, facial flushing, redness induced by inflammation, venus lake and port wine stains.
While laser vein treatment is generally safe and effective for most individuals, there are certain contraindications to consider before undergoing the procedure. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are typically advised to avoid laser vein treatment as well as individuals with certain skin conditions, such as active infections, dermatitis, or open wounds in the treatment area, may also be contraindicated for the procedure. Additionally, those with a history of keloid scarring or certain medical conditions affecting blood clotting may not be suitable candidates for laser vein treatment.
Laser vein treatment works by delivering concentrated pulses of light energy to targeted veins, causing them to gradually fade and disappear. The laser energy is absorbed by the haemoglobin in the blood within the veins, heating up the vein walls and causing them to collapse and seal shut. Over time, the treated veins are absorbed by the body, and blood flow is redirected to healthier veins nearby. Laser vein treatment is precise and non-invasive, targeting only the affected veins while leaving surrounding skin and tissue unharmed
For Cherry Angioma the laser light is absorbed by the blood vessels within the angioma. This absorption causes the blood vessels to heat up and coagulate, leading to their destruction. The treated angioma will darken, crust, and eventually fall off.
Laser therapy can effectively manage the symptoms of rosacea by targeting the visible blood vessels and inflammation associated with the condition. This absorption of laser light by the haemoglobin heats up the blood vessels, causing them to coagulate and eventually be reabsorbed by the body. By selectively targeting the dilated blood vessels responsible for the redness and flushing associated with rosacea, laser therapy can help reduce redness and improve overall skin tone. Additionally, laser treatment can stimulate collagen production, which can strengthen the skin and reduce the appearance of visible blood vessels over time.
I’m not going to lie – for veins it is a little uncomfortable. The sensation is difficult to describe, almost like a hot pin prick with each pulse of the laser, and can vary depending on factors such as the size and location of the treated veins, as well as individual pain tolerance. There is definitely a warming or prickling sensation as the laser energy targets the veins. However, many find the discomfort to be tolerable, and the procedure is usually well-tolerated without the need for topical numbing cream. To help manage discomfort, our Lutronic Clarity II has a built in cooling device which is operated during treatment. You may also wish to consider applying a topical numbing cream before the treatment. Overall, laser vein treatment is generally a quick and relatively painless procedure that can effectively improve the appearance of veins with minimal discomfort and downtime.
Laser treatment for cherry angiomas is less uncomfortable and well-tolerated, with minimal discomfort.
Pre Care
Before the treatment , it’s important to avoid sun exposure, as well as discontinue certain medications or supplements that may increase the risk of bruising or bleeding. You should should refrain from shaving or applying gels/lotions/creams to the treatment area on the day of the treatment.
Aftercare
Following laser vein treatment, it’s crucial to protect the skin from sun exposure. In addition, you should avoid hot baths, saunas, and strenuous exercise for a few days following the procedure to minimize the risk of complications and allow the area to heal. It is recommended to try and stay off your feet and following the R.I.C.E. principles – rest, ice, compression, elevate. Strenuous exercise and activities that involve prolonged standing should be avoided for a short period to allow for optimal healing.
The downtime associated with laser vein treatment is typically minimal, allowing patients to resume their normal activities shortly after the procedure. While some individuals may experience mild redness, swelling, or bruising in the treated area immediately following treatment, these side effects are generally temporary and subside within a few days.
The number of treatments required for laser vein treatment can vary depending on factors such as the size, severity, and location of the veins being treated, as well as individual treatment goals. While some patients may achieve satisfactory results after just one session, others may require multiple treatments spaced typically six weeks apart to achieve optimal results.
